Lids4Kids Program
Oregon State Law requires that helmets be worn by youth 15
years old and younger when riding skateboards (as well as
skates, bikes and scooters) in public places. Head
injuries are the No. 1 cause of serious injury and death
resulting from falls and collisions when riding these.
As a result, the Lids4Kids program was begun. This
enables any youth to obtain a free helmet simply by coming to
City Hall to be fitted with the correct size. Generous
donations from the area's businesses and private citizens have
enabled over 250 helmets to be given away to area youth since
the program started in spring of 2004.
To obtain a free helmet, or to donate to the program, contact Mike Watkins at City Hall, 938-8236
